To foster a future where agriculture is the key driver of economic growth, providing meaningful employment for all, reducing poverty and inequality and ensuring food security for the present and future generations.
Before the discovery of oil, Nigeria's economy was heavily reliant on agriculture. The country was known for its diverse agricultural produce: Groundnut in the North, Palm Oil in the East, and Cocoa in the West. These Crops along with others like Sorghum, millet and beans ensured Nigeria was largely self-sufficient before the oil boom. However, the discovery of oil in the 1950s and 1960s led to the decline in agricultural sector as the government focused in revenue from Oil. This neglect of agriculture has contributed to the present food insecurity in Nigeria. While this is a challenge for the government at all levels, it presents unique opportunities for YOU. .
